This spring, Greensboro will be the home to a new, week-long celebration of the arts. Scheduled to run from Sunday, April 27 through Sunday, May 4, 2008, the festival will include a wide variety of professional performances of classical music, jazz, blues, blue grass, chamber music, gospel, theater, dance, films, art exhibits, and even a performance by Bruce Springsteen at the Coliseum. ArtBeat Greensboro is a collaborative effort and the result of two years of work by representatives of Greensboro's three largest arts organizations: The Eastern Music Festival, The Greensboro Symphony, and Triad Stage.
ArtBeat Greensboro will have a fabulous beginning with a kick-off event sponsored by the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, in honor of the Foundation's 25th Anniversary. The kick-off event will take place on April 27 from 2:00-5:00 pm at Center City Park and will be free to the public. It will include musical performances by the Aycock Middle School Drum Line, a performance of Peter and the Wolf by members of the Greensboro Symphony and Triad Stage, a chess tournament with Dmitry Sitkovetsky, a participatory performance by Living Rhythms Drum Circle, and storytelling by Logie Meachum. The kick-off will be followed at 6:30 pm with a concert by Polecat Creek, presented by the Eastern Music Festival.
ArtBeat Greensboro will be an annual event that will draw visitors from throughout North Carolina and beyond to sample a variety of the outstanding arts performances in Greensboro. ArtBeat Greensboro organizers are grateful for the groundswell of local support from the arts organizations and the community and look forward to promoting and enhancing the performing and visual arts in Greensboro. Planning is already underway for ArtBeat Greensboro 2009, which will take place May 1-10, 2009.

The Eastern Music Festival and School is one of this country's foremost training programs for aspiring young musicians between the ages of 14 and 20, presented within the nationally known summer music festival for over 45 years. In addition to this festival, EMF created their weeklong Jazz & Blues Series with regional and nationally known artists performing in venues around town. Their spring contribution to the arts scene in Greensboro is sure to have one or more performances where you can relax and enjoy Jazz or Blues.
For more than 45 years the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra has promoted and fostered live performances in Classical, Chamber and Pops Series and provided music education performances and support for our schools. Since the arrival of Maestro Dmitry Sitkovetsky, a world renowned violinist with an extensive performance schedule on four continents, the GSO has welcomed guest artists from around the world. Our professional musicians perform the full range of music repertoire and their performances are considered to be of the highest caliber. They can be heard at the War Memorial Auditorium at the Coliseum and the Recital Hall at UNCG School of Music.
Greensboro's own professional, regional theatre features the best and timeliest of classic, contemporary and new theatrical works. It was named 'One of the best regional theatres in America' by New York's Drama League. Drama and comedy are presented in a 300-seat live performance theatre with two spacious lobbies and many other amenities in the renovated downtown Greensboro historic district. Unlike tour shows, every costume, every sound & light cue and every moment on stage in all Triad Stage productions are created by Triad Stage for our community. Triad Stage strengthens community, provokes dialogue, delights audiences, and fosters a unique Southern voice.
