Don’t Miss a Beat! “Letters from Leokadia” in Upstage Cabaret

Last year, Touring Theatre of North Carolina debuted the moving and poignant “Piece Work,” before taking the performance across the state. So we’re all excited about “Letters from Leokadia” coming to ArtBeat Greensboro 2010, Friday, April 30, Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2.

From the Touring Theatre of North Carolina Web site:

On the morning of October 4, 1942, Leokadia Jaromirska, a Polish Catholic woman, was leaving for work when she heard a child crying.  She walked toward the sound and found a little girl.  She thought to herself:  So many widows and lonely mothers manage to raise children, I can, too. She hugged the girl close to her heart and took her home.

This year, Touring Theatre of North Carolina has arranged to present “Letters from Leokadia” at Triad Stage Upstage Cabaret. Don’t miss it! Tickets here.

Don’t Miss a Beat: Ethel Waters immortalized at Triad Stage

ArtBeat Greensboro offers more great American music on the theatrical stage with the Triad Stage production of “Ethel Waters: His Eye Is On the Sparrow. A Life in Music.” By Larry Parr.

From Triad Stage Web site: From the hopeless slums of Philadelphia to the heights of fame, from anger towards almost everyone to a love for all mankind, Ethel Waters lived it all. Now her life takes center stage. From a childhood as a thief and unwilling bride, she became a Vaudeville success, a recording sensation and a Broadway and Hollywood star. Then a reputation for being difficult and her own distrust made her a recluse until she found a purpose beyond herself as a performer with the Billy Graham Crusades. Through it all, there were the songs, the ones that gave her strength and the ones that made her a legend. This is her incredible story, filled with the greatest hits of a lifetime, including “Stormy Weather” and “Am I Blue?”

Shindig it. ArtBeat Greensboro taps indie energy with Sunday afternoon street party

Glass blower Zeke Vantreese is one of those creatives with an entrepreneurial streak that doesn’t let business get in the way of whimsy. Founder of the popular First Friday Indie Market, Vantreese picks up the beat this spring as an ArtBeat Greensboro partner and maestro of the Shindig Art, Craft and Music Festival.

The entire 300 block of South Elm Street will be blocked from noon until 6 pm for vendors and events.

ArtBeat Greensboro partners bring together the local arts patrons and artists to join forces with the professional arts community in putting Greensboro on the arts map…

What’s a Shindig with out live music? Greensboro’s nationally touring hometown favorites Holy Ghost Tent Revival headline six hours of bands that start at noon with the mod originals The Raving Knaves.
